Dr. Barry Settle is an accomplished pastor, educator, author, and community leader with over 20 years of experience in ministry and higher education. He currently serves as Pastor of Ward AME Church in Los Angeles, appointed in October 2022 by Bishop Clement W. Fugh. Dr. Settle’s ministry journey began in 1998, and he was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episopal (AME) Church in 2003.
Throughout his pastoral career, Dr. Settle has led congregations in California and Missouri, including Willis Chapel AME, First AME Church, and Allen Chapel AME Church. He is known for developing thriving ministries for youth, men, and marriages, and for leading retreats that have transformed the spiritual lives of many. Dr. Settle is the Founder and CEO of In The Breach (ITB), co-founder of the Best Man Ministry, and serves as the 5th District President of the Sons of Allen Men’s Ministry.
Dr. Settle’s impact extends beyond the pulpit. He leads a weekly prayer ministry via phone and Facebook Live, reaching a broad audience. As a published author, his works include Bible studies for the 5th District AME Church and the 40-day devotional 40 Days on the Narrow Road. He is a regular contributor to The Christian Recorder and other AME publications.
With a B.A. in Economics from California State University, Los Angeles, a Master of Divinity from Central Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary, Dr. Settle is also a dedicated educator. He teaches biblical, theological, and practical ministry courses at Calvary Bible College and the AME Conference Board of Examiners, mentoring future church leaders and updating curricula to address contemporary challenges.
He is married to Rev. Rochelle Settle and is the proud father of Jeremiah, Zachary, and Madison. Outside of ministry, Dr. Settle enjoys sports, exercise, Taekwondo, writing, and spending time with his family
